Growing up in a small town in north central Oklahoma Steven James Springer, formerly "tha Beat" or "B" but now Steven James as he likes to be called, started performing at an early age. "My folks use to talk about when I was like 4 or 5 years old, and how I would grab the vacuum out of the closet and pretend that it was a mic and entertain everybody for hours at a time. I'm not sure how but I knew way back then that I wanted to be about music, that's all I ever wanted to do was be about music." By the time he was eleven music was an integral part of his life. He had participated in choir and school events through out growing up, but at 11 he was selected to a special city wide group that performed for special events and even performed at the state capitol for the centennial for the Oklahoma Land Run. "I learned a lot during that time of my life. We had some great teachers and they really embraced the fact that I loved singing so much. I had lead parts and solos, I would do anything that I could to get in front of people and sing. It was a real growing experience for me."

Growing up flew by for Steven James. From group choir to solos then into Jr. High with acting and singing classes, Steven started taking private lessons when he turned 14. "I would sing at funerals and weddings, I sang at basket ball games, things of that nature." Then came high school. Steven James was active in the choir and had solo parts in shows and contests. He received countless Superior ratings at state contests and was even chosen to attend a special summer event hosted by UCO. "I did my first full production show in high school and that's when it really changed. I decided to audition for a spot in a touring group called the Roustabouts that is hosted by Northern Oklahoma College in northern Oklahoma. I remember going to the auditions, there was over 150 people there singing for a very few select spots. The group has been around since the early 70's, in fact my uncle that I'm named after was one of its early members, and maybe that's where I get all this from." Steven was selected by the director and received a full ride scholarship to NOC and majored in Music Theater. "We toured around Oklahoma at events and schools and festivals, it was good experience. We had to set our own stage, we got a good feel for the techie side of a show, I even did lighting for one of the drama performances for the school. I loved being on tour, it defiantly helped open me up. I had to close the shows every night with Lee Greenwoods "God Bless the USA". Being part of that group was a life changing experience.

After 2 years of touring with the Roustabouts "B" finished school and moved back to Enid where he performed in numerous theatrical productions including "Into the Woods", "Oklahoma", "The Fantastics", "Hot n' Cole" along with many others. In 2005 he moved from Enid to Oklahoma City where Steven James continued to sing and perform.

In 2005 while working at a local car dealership Steven James was introduced to David Henry, formerly Dub-g now know as D. Henry. They started writing and recording right from the get go. Then came "Jealousy". "I remember sitting in D's pre production studio, he put this beat on and it was like, 'aw shoot' right from the drop. D. Henry had already written the first verse and after he got through it the hook just came to me. It literally took us just a few hours to write and record the original version of that song. It was cool as shit. You know, we have a little different styles, but when you mix them together they really work." Steven James and D. Henry have traveled around together doing local events and shows ever since then. "Just the thrill of performing makes all the hard times and the headaches worth it. You get up there and everybody's waiting. Then boom you hit them with this club banger and its off the hook."

Fast forward 8 years, Steven James is now married to the love of his life and now the front man for the Band Ragged Mile. Ragged Mile is a soul band with hints of hip hop, rock, r&b, and Reggae music all wrapped into one amazing show experience. If you enjoy the sounds of Bob Marley, Ben Harper, Donovan Frankenreiter, Zavier Rudd, Peter Tosh, John Butler Trio, Dirty Heads, G. Love, The Beautiful Girls, Eddie Vedder, Jason Mraz, Bobby Alu or DMB... If its rad we they get down with it.
