    disbandment dates for bands
Left by Unregistered User, on Jun 17, 2010 - 17:26
Another small request: Would it be possible to add a 'disbandment date' for bands in addition to the 'formation date'? (Right now it seems like all bands necessarily exist forever from their formation onwards.)

Note that it says 'formation date' on the edit about page, but 'founded' on the band profile page. On the latter page, it would be nice if there is an option for a line below 'founded' saying 'disbanded' followed by a date.

    UTF8 encoding
Left by Unregistered User, on Jun 14, 2010 - 23:50
    A small request:

Would it be possible to support UTF8 encoding (in text boxes) all over the site? Currently many Chinese characters and various other unicode symbols do not show correctly if at all.

(Coincidentally, non of my current bands/projects have alphanumeric names, but while I can understand the choice to require alphanumeric names as the main band/page name, I'm less happy about the impossibility to show the real name of my band 'kusa kanmuri' (in Chinese characters) in the 'about' text box.)

      Hi Lajos,

Our entire database supports UTF-8, are you sure you can't use chinese or other international characters in your band names and bios? I tested this in my browser and had no problems... can you show me a screenshot of what happens when you try to use non-latin characters? Email me support@uvumi.com with details and I'll see what we can do. It's possible that we forgot to add support in various areas of the site, but I am sure that display names and bios for personal accounts and band accounts support UTF-8.

Trying out in this box: 'Kusa kanmuri' in kanji is 草冠 (two characters). Generally the second disappears, and when I click edit the first gets replaced by some letters with diacritical marks.

Seems to work here. Back to the band's 'about' box...

Ok that's interesting. Let me know what happens on your end in the About box for your band. With enough specific info, I'm sure we can get it fixed :)

I tries to email to the above email address (with screen captures), but for some reason I can't...

Anyway, here is a description of what happens:

        Case 1.
step 1 - band management page; edit box for the 'about' info. Type in kanji 草冠. Click 'save'.
step 2 - check profile page. Second kanji disappeared. It shows only 草.
step 3 - go back to edit box for 'about' info. Kanji replaced by letter with mark and question marks in boxes.

        Case 2.
step 1 - band management, song info page. Edit song info text box. Paste in: ∀x,t[(x∈U)t→∃t'[t'>t∧∼(x∈U)t']] click save.
step 2 - check public song page. Results vary...
step 3 - return to song info text edit box. Only text before ∀x,t[(x∈U)t→∃t'[t'>t∧∼(x∈U)t']] shows. That formula and everything after it disappeared.

Right on Lajos, that was super helpful for me! I did receive your email, too. Anyway, I found the issue and have fixed it on our development server, but it's going to be a few days before I can release the update to Uvumi.com because I'm right in the middle of some other improvements and bug fixes. As usual, I'll make an announcement on the Team Uvumi blog when the fix is released.

Thanks for your help in tracking down this issue, I don't know how I would have found it without your feedback :)

    Uvumi group on Last.fm
    Left by hdsander, on Apr 15, 2010 - 14:05
Now that Last.fm discontinued playback on demand it's the more valuable to be on Uvumi.

There is a Last.fm group for all Uvumi users/artists:
    http://www.last.fm/group/uvumi

Calling all artists having a profile on Last.fm to request getting connected to the group.

      Clarifying this post...
      Left by hdsander, on Jun 16, 2010 - 17:07
...it may look like an last.fm advertisement but it is definitely the opposite.

Last.fm's policy changes implicated heavy disadvantages for indie artists and their fans / listeners. Uvumi is a great complement and my intention is to connect all artists on last.fm that will be found for comfortable listening on Uvumi.
The group's symbol appears at the profiles of the connected artists and links at last to uvumi.

    adding to playlists
    Left by Digdug, on Apr 12, 2010 - 6:14
hi guys, I know you are snowed under at the mo, but I thought this might be a change that's easy to do. Is it possible to amend the 'add to playlist' pop-up so that you can add a track to more than one playlist at the same time? At the moment it only lets you select one playlist at a time. Let me know what you think!

Definitely possible. We have a ticket in our system to improve this feature, so expect a new version of that interface in the near(ish) future :)

Hey guys I'm completely ignorant on this issue, but a friend of mine is trying to access uvumi and she's not able to find the page. It says there that she has no internet or that she mistyped. I'm pretty sure both are not true. She's from Mauritus, a small island on South India. I have no idea what is going there, but her friend that could log here and use the site says that sometimes she get that too! It's too weird.

Her friend is also from Mauritus. Perhaps it has something to do with her global position? I've never heard it could be a issue, but... it's too weird anyway. :P

I suspect that the issue is with your friend's ISP, specifically the DNS servers. She could try configuring her computer to use the Google Public DNS servers, which has solved this issue for a few other people who described similar problems: http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Thanks for adding the add to playlist feature! Sorry to still be wanting more, but is there any way to make it possible to add a song to multiple playlists at the same time by clicking on more than one of the playlist buttons?

    • Left by Marshall Stokes, on Feb 23, 2010 - 7:21
We're working on that... what I have in mind is something like the queue button interface to add songs to playlists, where you can see which playlists already contain that song, and it would also be very nice if you could remove a song from a playlist via this interface. We'll come up with a way to blend all that functionality into one cohesive (and powerful) feature as soon as we can!

yeah but in the meantime, it would be easy to do what pidderpat suggests, replace radio button with checkboxes

By the way I think it was an excellent choice to unhide the replies! It's a lot easier to keep track of while browsing people's walls. :)
