Credits

Written, composed, and performed by Reggie Miles.

This song can be found on two of my latest recordings, "These Old Shoes" and "War Mongerin' Man". I released each of these recordings, along with "Handsful O' Blues", in early 2008 .

"Shelter From The Rain", was recorded, edited and mastered direct to digital media, with only minimal processing, by Marc Willet at Falcon Audio in Sultan, WA.

The guitar used to play this song was a venerable old Martin D 12-20, that's been setup as a six string. It was open tuned to a modified open E tuning, in the key of F#.

Lyrics

Shelter From The Rain Reggie Miles © 2008

He was just another stray,
Who wandered by one day,
Looking hungry, mistreated, far from home.

With hair all gray and shaggy,
And a coat, so soiled and tattered,
A lonely broken beggar left to roam.

He was asking for a handout.
With trembling hands and desperate eyes,
Said he just needed a little something to ease the pain,

I didn't have much that I could spare.
But I shared what I had with that stranger there,
Because, every now and then, we all need shelter from the rain.

Shelter from the rain, we all need shelter from the rain.
When troubles shower down upon you, and you're bending from the strain.
The storms of life will pass in time, and the sun will shine again,
But until then we all need, we all need shelter from the rain.

There's a lesson here to learn.
How the tides of life can turn,
And leave you lost without a prayer of finding hope.

We all rush headlong through our lives,
To get ahead or just survive,
Doing what we can and to try 'n' cope.

Only the bravest take the time,
To help those who fall behind,
To lead them back and help them find the way.

If we all pitch in and do our part,
To lend a helping hand with an eager heart,
Every tomorrow could be a brighter day.

Shelter from the rain, shelter from the rain,
Extend your hand in kindness and you won't do so in vain.
When you offer help to others to ease their sadness and their pain,
You can mend a broken life, offer shelter from the rain.

Shelter from the rain, we all need shelter from the rain,
When troubles shower down upon you, and you're bending from the strain.
The storms of life will pass in time, and the sun will shine again,
But until then we all need, we all need shelter from the rain.

Yes, until then we all need, we all need shelter from the rain.
