Written, composed, arranged, and performed by Reggie Miles

Recorded, edited and mastered by Marc Willet at Falcon Audio in Sultan, WA

The guitar that I used to record this song is one that I made myself out of garage sale junk. It's a hybrid of both the Dobro and National style resophonic guitars. I call mine a "Nobro." National + Dobro = Nobro. See my photos section for a thorough descriptive image of what was used in the construction of my Frankenstein resonator guitar.

I play this song bottleneck slide style in a modified open "E" tuning.

Wall Street Bailout Blues by Reggie Miles © 2009

Everybody's talkin' 'bout
The economic downturn
Who's getting' bailed out
And who's gonna get burned

Wall Street millionaire
Vultures comin' home to roost
They want more corporate welfare
To pad their golden parachutes

Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac
Bear Stearns and AIG
A blank check is all they lack
For their next spending spree

Everybody's frettin' 'bout
The stock market crashin' down
Who's gonna get a handout
And who they're gonna let drown

Fat cats with hats in hand
Swimmin' in toxic debt
A little help is all they ask
And, 700 billion should just about cover it

They're cryin' help us Main Street
Our market shares are fallin' fast
You may be losin' your house next week
But we're all about to lose our ass

Everybody's bloggin' 'bout
That 2008 recession
It's a who's who of who's lost everything
And who's gonna get possession

They want cheap cash to make it right
To fuel their speculation
Free from any oversight
And any regulation

We all know who the real losers are
You can see them very clear
No, you don't have to look so far
Just check out any mirror

Everybody's freakin' 'bout
That credit crunch crisis
Who's down for the count
And who's going to survive this

Welcome to your plutocracy
Government by and for the rich
Who made this mess for all to see
Thank George that son of a Bush

Will the greedy kings of Wall Street
Run out of credit this time
Or will they keep panhandlin' Main Street
Hey buddy can you spare a dime

Everybody's worried 'bout
Our financial situation
But I guess it don't apply to me
In my present occupation

When you ain't got nothin'
There's nothin' left to lose
That's why I'm sittin' here on Main Street
Singin' these Wall Street bail out blues

This epic tale is nothing short of monumental in scope, the greed of the "haves" versus the need of the "have-nots." It is the definitive story of our life and times, that has brought our world's economic institutions to the brink of collapse. For those on the short end of this stick the buzz words are recession, depression, homelessness and joblessness on an unprecedented global scale.

Even before I the chance to officially record this song, it was featured in a story by Robert Tomsho that made the cover of The Wall Street Journal on February 6th 2009. His article, "No Dough In The Do Re Mi" about songwriters who have taken on the recession, mentions Woody Guthrie, Neil Young, Tom Paxton, yours truly and about a dozen others. His story has drawn international attention to my songwriting and performance pursuits. Not bad for a guy that plays on the street with a guitar made out of garage sale junk!

Thomas, even though I've been here a while, I'm still not completely fluent with all of the functions available here at Uvumi. I just now stumbled upon the comment that you left and I can't recall if I took the time to say thank you for that sweet response that you shared with me about my song! So, let me say, thank you!
