Mind Cinema
¨We want to create a laid-back mood and soundscape for the listener to get lost into¨, says Elizondo, encompassing Mind Cinema’s musical ambitions. With an ambient/shoegazing indie-rock style that draws influences ranging from Slowdive and Spiritualized to New Order, The Flaming Lips and MGMT, Mind Cinema holds true to their goal, creating heavy atmospheric soundscapes with drowsy/layered vocals and extremely catchy hooks and choruses. Originally from Monterrey, Mexico, Gerardo Gamez and Javier Elizondo started the band while working and studying in San Diego, CA. ¨At first, we weren’t sure what musical direction we wanted to take, but we just went with the flow and let the music guide us in order for it to be a true expression of ourselves and our ideas. We simply wanted to write really good music that made sense to us¨, says Elizondo. Their initial recordings were solid enough to serve as a binding ground for the project, as soon after, Elizondo moved to live and work in Vancouver, Canada and Gamez returned to their hometown in Monterrey, Mexico. The creative spark grew stronger as MP3´s and .wav files were sent back and forth through email almost every week for a several months, slowly taking shape into what would become a solid musical endeavor. Priscila Orfanos joined the band shortly after and they went into the studio in late December of 2009, self-funding their debut EP “Sun Beat”, which was officially released in July 2010. Currently, Mind Cinema is supporting their EP through selected live shows at venues in Vancouver, California and Mexico.
